Village show classes
2024 classes are now available!
Village show classes are open to both adults and young people, other than the exceptions listed below.

Young person classes are arranged by school year groups.

Men's cookery classes are to encourage potentially less proficient entrants.

Flowers
1. Single stem specimen sweet pea.
2. Vase of three stems of sweet peas, any variety.
3. Vase of one specimen hybrid tea rose single flower.
4. Vase of one stem of floribunda or cluster roses.
5. Vase of three hybrid tea roses, mixed or same variety.
6. Five stems of perennials, flowering shrubs or climbers (at least three varieties).
7. Vase of three stems of flowers of one colour (red, orange or yellow).
8. Vase of three stems of flowers of one colour (blue, purple, white or pink).
9. Small jar of pansies or violas.
10. Jam jar of mixed garden flowers.
11. One stem of lupin.
12. One spike of delphinium.
13. A container of three clematis flowers.
14. Bowl of mixed garden flowers (max space 60cm).
15. Flowering pot plant (max pot 20cm).
16. Potted cactus or succulent (max pot 20cm).

Notes

Use fresh clean flowers and foliage in suitable sized containers.

Cut in the evening or early morning. Handle as little as possible and protect from draughts and bright sun.
-
Remove lower leaves and immerse stems up to their necks in water until the last minute.
-
On staging, trim off any damaged leaves or flowers, remove “bugs”.
-
Do not exceed the maximum space allowed or exceed the number of stems specified
-
A bowl is wider than high, a vase is taller than wide.
-
Pot plants must have been owned for a minimum of six months.

Jams, marmalades, preserves etc. Show in clear glass jars full to the top covered with cellophane (not pickles/chutneys) or plain lids.

If using a cellophane cover, a wax disc must be used.

Label jars and include date made (month/year).
-
Preserves containing vinegar must have a twist top only and must be at least two months old for showing.
-
Please resist the temptation to open your jars before the show!

A collage is a picture assembled using a range of different materials such as tissue paper, feathers, ribbon, dried leaves/flowers etc.
